(Would be nice if you can) Take my music into your heart along with your sweet memories – Akiko Tsuruga (Hammond Organ Player)
Ms. Akiko Tsuruga, a Hammond organist, is keeping herself busy playing at jazz clubs in and out of the city as well as touring nationally and internationally. Hammond organ is an analog electronic organ and the first of the kind. It uses tube preamplifier and generates warm, distinctive analog sound. It requires intricate timber control, and Ms. Tsuruga says “This instrument has a full of possibilities because the sound will never be the same and vary by each environment (in where each organ is played).” Each player creates the sound on the spot instinctively, and she often learns new things led by this instant creation. That is surely one of the appealing parts about the instrument. In 197O’s, Hammond organ was no longer in production; therefore, the instrument needs to be constantly maintained to keep its condition. However, still technical hitches cannot be avoided. “Say… even some note won’t come out. I imagine that note and make myself believe that I hear it!” Ms. Tsuruga laughs.
